The look on a man’s face when he meets his son for the first time is a truly emotion-packed event. When Brandi contacted me to photograph her husbands homecoming I was delighted. I absolutely LOVE the military homecomings I’ve photographed in the past — quite possibly the most raw and true emotions I’ve ever witnessed, let alone photographed. But when she told me how he had been gone for THIRTEEN MONTHS and had never met their son who was now 9 months, I was honored to document this incredible moment. I always feel a rush of adrenaline and anxiety during these moments, and am worried I’m going to be a basket case crying my eyes out, however the task of photographing and composing each shot keeps…

Lucero Family at Hunter Army Airfield | Alison Epps Photography | Savannah Children and Family Photographer
You might recognize this family as I have been photographing them throughout the last two years I have lived in Savannah. I met Natalia when I moved to Savannah, she was looking for a photographer to capture the grand opening of her Stroller Strides business that she ran here, and introduced me to many families I have had the opportunity to photograph. The numerous shoots I’ve done with the Lucero family include family sessions before Gabriel’s deployment, photographs of little Sofia to send over to Gabe while he was away, his homecoming (a personal favorite type of shoot), Christmas photos and now lastly a bittersweet shoot of some maternity photos for their daughter who is due in July/their final Savannah days at Hunter Army Airfield.
