A few posts back I mentioned a new project that I was super excited about but it was still in the works so I was going to have to share more about it later. Well, I’m still working on figuring it out and exactly where I want to go with it but I figure I will share a few tidbits about it.
It started when I was in Colorado in August over my daughters first birthday. Colorado is such a gorgeous state for photographs!! The landscape photography niche out there has always been in the back of my mind. But I am not a landscape photographer. I’m drawn to people.
We went to Garden of the Gods and my husband snapped a quick shot of me. You know your typical Instagram husband type shot. It was of Hadley and me staring out over the mountains right at sunset holding each other. It was an iPhone picture. There was something about it that I couldn’t quite place my finger on that was so moving to me. It took a while to hit the nail on the head to pinpoint why I loved it so much. Long story short, before I get carried away, it was the landscape so beautiful that you would hang it on your wall combined with the mother/daughter moment and love we were sharing. It was a beautiful enough picture before incorporating anything else, but when layered with someone I love, in my arms, somewhere I love it was enough to dive deeper and start digging around at how I could incorporate this into ALL of my shoots.
It all started actually as we stood in Bar Harbor, Maine and I realized how happy we were in that moment, and how blessed we were to stand there at sunset as a family in our happy place. I wanted to photograph others in their happy places too!
I recently went up to Virgina for a Justin and Mary photography retreat. Their focus was to help photographers find their “why”. Why they do what they do. Why they love it so much. I knew instantly that this was my “why”. I’m still developing it — no pun intended, ;) — but part of this shoot, as they stood in the middle of the fall leaves in Virginia, wrapped up in each other, looking out over the water, gave me a glimpse at their happy place.
More on this subject to come, but I wanted to share these lovebirds portraits now, specifically because it was a very wintery themed wedding, and just now we are getting our winter days in Florida. Now that it is mid-January! Enjoy.
